Mr. Weekes will take up the portfolio of Crime and Intelligence.

Man Injured in Road Traffic Collision

Around 3:00am this morning, [August 25 2015] a 25yr old male motorcyclist was found lying unconscious with apparent facial injuries on North Shore Road near the junction with Jennings Road, Smiths. 

Although details surrounding this incident are vague, it is believed that the man was travelling east along North Shore Road, when he lost control of his cycle and collided with a wall.

Press Conference: Jonathan Darrell Murder Investigation

Bermuda Service held a press conference at the Rural Hill Plaza in Paget, where Mr Johnathan Darrell was fatally wounded.

Sean Field-Lament- "On behalf of the Bermuda Police Service, I would like to express our heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Jonathan Darrell.  Our thoughts are with them during these very difficult times.  The Bermuda Police Service has launched an investigation into the untimely death of Mr. Darrell which is spearheaded by the Serious Crime Unit (SCU) under the direction of Acting Inspector Jason Smith and a family liaison officer has been assigned to the family of the deceased to help them manage and cope with the process.  This marks the second murder for 2015 and already officers are following some promising lines of inquiry.

Johnathan Darrell Named as Murder Victim

Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 27 year old Johnathan Darrell of Fairhaven Lane in Sandys who died as a result of an incident that took place on Saturday August 22nd at 4:15am at the Rural Hill Plaza in Paget just outside of Ice Queen. It appears that a major melee took place in the parking lot with a number of people involved. As a result, Johnathan Darrell from Sandys was taken to King Edward Memorial Hospital with an apparent stab wound to his chest.

27 Year Old Man Fatally Stabbed

Police and first responders attended a report of an incident that took place at Rural Hill Plaza outside of Ice Queen in Paget on Saturday, 4:15am. Details are still unfolding but it appears that a major melee took place in the parking lot with a number of people involved. As a result, a 27 year old male from Southampton was taken to King Edward Memorial Hospital with an apparent stab wound to his chest. Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced dead at 4:28 am Saturday.

WCAT Officers to Hold Community Clinic

The Western Community Action Team (WCAT) will be conducting a Community Clinic at the Heron Bay Market Place, Southampton tomorrow; Wednesday, 19th August 2015, during the hours of 11am to 1pm.

The clinic is being offered as an opportunity for members of the community to meet the officers responsible for their parishes. WCAT Officers will also be available to give advice on Crime Prevention, Neighborhood Watch or discuss any other policing related issues one may have.

Weekend Report

Around 11:45pm August 14th, police responded to a collision along Reid Street near the junction with Burnaby Street Pembroke, involving a motorcar and a motorcycle. 

It was reported that a 34 year old female driver was travelling east in the wrong direction on Reid Street, when her vehicle came into contact with a man on a motorcycle who was travelling west along Reid Street. 

Hand Bag Snatch

Around 9:15pm on August 12th, 2015, police responded to a reported handbag snatching along Pitts Bay Road, Pembroke. The 28 year old victim was standing near the Waterloo House, when she was approached by two unknown male suspects.

The suspects snatched the victim’s cell phone and a bag containing personal items before running off along Pitt’s Bay Road. The suspects were pursued by the victim and several witnesses in the area, eventually making good their escape along Woodbourne Avenue.

Butterfield Bank Bomb Threat

At 9:52 am First Responders attended a report of a bomb threat at Butterfield Bank, Rose Bank Center. As a result the Butterfield Bank instituted their emergency protocols and all bank personnel were detained in safe areas.

The surrounding buildings, HSBC Compass Point, Clarendon House and The TIGER ESSO Station were duly evacuated. The adjoining roads Par La Ville Road, Richmond Road and Church Street were cordoned off.
