Constable Austin Receives Leadership Award at ICISF 15th World Congress

Constable Wynford (Richard) Austin was recently recognised with a leadership award at the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) 15th World Congress, held in Baltimore Maryland, U.S.A. from May 19th until May 24th 2019.

The award is in recognition of Constable Austin’s commitment to the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) programme since its inception, providing CISM training to many, as well as setting up mutual aid protocols with local CISM teams including the Bermuda Red Cross and the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) of Bermuda.

Bermuda Police Service (BPS) Station Duty Officer (SDO) and Bermuda Public Services Union (BPSU) 2nd Vice President Sis. Linda Bogle-Mienzer attended the Public Services International (PSI) Caribbean Sub-Regional Meeting held in St. Vincent from May 15th – 17th, 2019.

Sis. Bogle-Mienzer serves as LGBTQI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex) representative and spoke on Human Rights & Unions serving as allies.

Man Arrested in Connection With Stolen Dunkley & Pioneer Dairies Truck

Around 3pm Monday, May 27th the theft of a Dunkley & Pioneer Dairies Limited truck was reported to police.

It appears that two staff members were making deliveries on Reid Street in the City of Hamilton when the unattended truck – which was understood to have been parked near Washington Lane – was removed.

The stolen truck was later recovered by police unoccupied in the Riviera Road, Southampton area.

Seven Hurt in Two Car Paget Collision Sunday Night, Driver Arrested

Seven people were hurt when two cars being driven in opposite directions collided on South Road in Paget near the junction with Southcote Road around 10:10pm Sunday (May 26th).

The driver of the westbound car, said to be a 34 year old Southampton man, was treated at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and later discharged.

He was also arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.

Around 10:10pm Sunday, May 26th police and fellow first responders were dispatched to a reported two vehicle collision on South Road in Paget near the junction with Southcote Road.

It appears that two cars were being driven in opposite directions on South Road when they collided.

Early information indicates that there were children passengers in one of the vehicles.

Regional Recognition for Superintendent Astwood & Constable Bridgeman

Before a packed audience at the Cayman Westin Grand Hotel, Amalgamated Security Services Limited (ASSL) held their Regional Recognition Awards Ceremony during the 34th Annual General Meeting and Conference of the Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police (ACCP) Wednesday evening (May 22nd).

Every year since 2015, ASSL publicly recognizes the Caribbean top cops during an awards ceremony at the AGM and Conference of the ACCP, which was held in the Cayman Islands this year from May 21st until May 24th.

Second Burglary Within Two Weeks at Vera P. Card in St. George’s

Around 4am Friday, May 24th police officers responded to a reported burglary at the Vera P. Card store on Water Street in St. George’s.

It appears that three suspects wearing dark coloured hooded tops gained entry into the store and stole a quantity of jewellery before making good their escape on foot.

Driver Arrested After Car Overturns in Hamilton Parish

Around 8pm Thursday, May 23rd police and fellow first responders were dispatched to a reported single vehicle car crash on North Shore Road in Hamilton parish, near the junction with Cottage Hill Road.

It appears that the car was being driven in the eastbound lane of North Shore Road when it struck a wall and overturned, damaging a section of the wall.

Investigation Underway Regarding Student Assault Video Circulating

Assistant Commissioner of Police Antoine Daniels – The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is aware of a short video clip circulating on social media that shows a teenaged male senior school student being assaulted by other young men.

It appears that the video was taken Thursday, May 16th at Bulls Head car park in the City of Hamilton.

The victim’s family has made initial contact with police and the BPS is progressing the investigation into this matter.
