Police Cadet Alnique Young-Looby Wins Relay for Life Song Contest

The Bermuda Police Service celebrates the achievement of Cadet Alnique Young-Looby, who entered and won the 2019 Relay for Life of Bermuda song competition.

The competition required persons entering to record a song that Relay for Life could use as their theme song.

Cadet Young-Looby, a singer and aspiring songwriter, recently lost her grandfather to cancer and collaborated with her vocal coach in writing the winning song.

Reported Armed Robbery at Belvin’s Variety in Flatts [Updated]

Around 11:30am today (May 21st), police officers responded to a reported attempted armed robbery at Belvin’s Variety in Flatts.

It appears that a lone male suspect entered the store brandishing a bladed article and demanded money.

However, he left empty handed and no injuries were sustained by staff.

Three Years Later, Patrick Dill Murder Investigation Still Active

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is renewing their appeal for witnesses to come forward in the murder of Patrick Dill, who was shot outside of his home approximately 11pm on Saturday the 21st day of May 2016.

This case remains an active murder investigation and today marks the third anniversary since Patrick was killed.

The investigating team would like to speak with witnesses in the Crossland Lane area of Pembroke that might have seen persons acting suspiciously in the area before and after the fatal shooting, as well as persons that have information about this callous murder.

Confirmed Firearm Incident in Paget: No Reported Injuries

Around 11:30pm Sunday, May 19th police officers responded to a report of a gunshot on Harbour Road in Paget, in the vicinity of Manse Road.

It was subsequently confirmed that a firearm was discharged in the area. However, there have been no injuries reported.

An investigation is now underway and any witnesses or members of the public that may have seen any suspicious activity in the Harbour Road, Manse Road Paget area after 11pm Sunday – in particular any individuals seen on motorcycles – are urged to call the Serious Crime Unit on 247-1739.

Worker Hurt in Reported Industrial Accident in the City of Hamilton [Updated]

Around 8:45am Sunday, May 19th an industrial accident was reported in the City of Hamilton.

It appears that a male worker was refuelling a crane in the Church Street, Washington Lane area when some of the fuel spilled and somehow ignited.

Apparently the fire was extinguished just prior to the arrival of the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service.

Witnesses to Harassment Incident at City of Hamilton Bus Terminal Sought

The Bermuda Police Service is aware of a social media post that describes an incident involving a man verbally harassing a teenage girl at the bus terminal in the City of Hamilton around 4pm Thursday, May 16th.

Thankfully, a member of the public stepped in and challenged the man’s actions, causing him to run off.

The suspect is described as dark complexioned, with a bald head and is believed to be in his early 50s or 60s.

Most Services Restored to BPS Systems, Including 911 & 295-0011

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) can now confirm that most services have been restored – including 911 and 295-0011 – after a power outage incident around 6am Wednesday, May 15th.

On initial inspection there does not appear to be any data loss and full system restoration is anticipated by Monday, May 20th.

911 Now Operational, Work Continues to Restore Full Service [Updated]

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) can confirm that service to the 911 emergency telephone number has been restored.

However, technicians continue working to restore service to the main police telephone number 295-0011.

A power outage incident at the BPS Data Centre this morning caused 911 and 295-0011 to fail.

Investigation Ongoing Regarding Police Involved Collision Early Sunday

The investigation regarding Sunday’s early morning collision involving a police vehicle and a 29 year old female motorcyclist, that occurred at the junction of King Street and Reid Street in the City of Hamilton, continues.

It has been established that the police vehicle involved had its lights and sirens activated when the unfortunate collision occurred with the 29 year old woman as she travelled along Reid Street into the city centre.
