Town Hall Meeting for Eastern Parishes Well Attended

Last night (Tuesday, March 16th) at the Francis Patton Primary School, the Eastern Area Command hosted a town hall meeting. The purpose of the town hall meeting was to introduce the Community Action Team (CAT) officers to their community formally and to allow public feedback and discussion by residents on policing initiatives while emphasizing Police working in partnership with the community as outlined in the Policing Plan 2010.

Sudden Deaths of Peter Mitchell & Shawn Woolridge

The autopsy of 55 year old Peter Mitchell is now complete and the forensic pathologist has determined that his death is not suspicious. Therefore there is no further Police action required. The Bermuda Police Service again extends sincere condolences to the Mitchell family on the untimely passing of their loved one.

Shooting at Bermuda College

Around 1:40am today, Police received a report of gunshots at Bermuda College in Paget. It appears that during a function at the premises, a physical altercation took place between several young men. The victim, a 16 year old young man from Warwick, received a gunshot wound to the upper body and an injury to his head (not gunshot related). The teenager subsequently attended KEMH and received treatment for his injuries. He was later released. A car on the premises was also damaged; it is believed the two incidents may be linked. An investigation into these matters is underway.

The second in a series of town hall meetings for 2010 will take place at Francis Patton Primary School on Tuesday, March 16th starting at 7pm.

Residents of the eastern parishes (Smith’s parish, Hamilton parish & St. George’s) are invited to attend this forum to discuss the state of affairs in the area for the past six months and to hear the attending Police officers present the policing initiatives for the next six months. Representing the Bermuda Police Service at Tuesday’s meeting will be Eastern Area Commander Chief Inspector Tracy Adams.

Sudden Death – Alshante Brangman

The autopsy of 23 year old Alshante Brangman is now complete and the forensic pathologist has determined that her death is not suspicious.

As a result, the 28 year old Sandys parish man that was in Police custody assisting with inquiries into the matter has been formally released.

Therefore there is no further Police action required. The Bermuda Police Service again extends sincere condolences to the Brangman family on the untimely passing of their loved one.

Sudden Death

Around 10:40am today, Police received a report of a sudden death in the Verdmont Valley Close, Smith's parish area. Officers attended the scene a short time later. The body of the victim, believed to be a 38 year old Smith's parish man, was pronounced dead by an on call physician at the scene at 12:05pm. It appears that the body had been there for some time before being discovered by a member of the public. No further information will be released until the next of kin have been notified.

Update - Sudden Death

The investigation into the circumstances of 23 year old Alshante Brangman’s death is ongoing by detectives from the Serious Crime Unit. A 28 year old Sandys parish man remains in custody assisting Police with their inquiries. Whilst there is a person in custody, the investigation and any subsequent conclusion(s) as to the cause(s) of her death will be predicated on the evidence in the matter.

The Bermuda Police Service is currently awaiting the forensic pathologist’s report.

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 23 year old Alshante Brangman of Devonshire. A few minutes after 8 this morning (Tuesday) first responders attended a residence in Devonshire with a 23 year old woman needing medical attention. The 23 year old Devonshire woman was taken to KEMH via ambulance where she was pronounced dead at 8:29am Tuesday by an on call physician. An investigation has commenced and is being coordinated by officers from the Serious Crime Unit. The Bermuda Police Service extends sincere condolences to the family & friends of Ms. Brangman.

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - The Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) issued a severe weather advisory this early morning as it is expected that Bermuda will experience unsettled weather conditions throughout the day.

According to the BWS gale conditions are likely this morning through this evening with the potential of gusts reaching storm force.

As the day progresses, the public can expect to experience hurricane gusts of up to 65 knots in some instances.
