Around 10:30pm on Wednesday, Police received a report of a confirmed firearm incident in the Midland Heights Crescent, Hamilton parish area. Details about what occurred are unclear at this time; however it appears that a 40 year old Hamilton parish man was fatally shot outside a residence in the area. He was subsequently pronounced dead. No further information will be released until the deceased’s next of kin has been notified. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
Around 8:55pm on Wednesday, Police received a report of a robbery at the Boaz Island Shell gas station in Sandys parish. Details about what occurred are unclear at this time; however it appears that two unknown men entered the gas station, one brandishing what appeared to be a firearm and the other brandishing a bladed article. They stole a quantity of cash before making good their escape. There were no reported injuries.
Today the Ministry of Energy, Telecommunications and E-Commerce hosted a luncheon for TechAwards10 at the
Fairmont Hamilton Princess, as the culmination of TechWeek10. The aim of the awards is to publicly recognise the outstanding achievements being made in Bermuda’s information technology industry.
Around 4:10pm today, Police received a report of a road traffic collision resulting in injury involving a pedestrian and a car on North Shore Road in Hamilton parish near the junction with Aubrey Road. It appears that a 12 year old Hamilton parish boy disembarked a bus in the area and attempted to cross the road when he was struck by a car traveling east on North Shore Road. The 12 year old student received what are believed to be non-life threatening head injuries and abrasions to his body. He was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
At 11:34am today, Police responded to a report of a sudden death that took place at a Devon Spring Road, Devonshire residence. A 49 year old Canadian man (guest worker) was found in an unresponsive state inside the residence. He was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. No further information will be released until the next of kin has been notified (the deceased’s relatives are overseas). Inquiries into this incident are underway.
Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro, Serious Crime Unit - The Bermuda Police Service can confirm that charges have been laid before the courts in relation to the shooting of Renee Kuchler & Shaki Minors outside the Southside Cinema on Friday 13th November, 2009.
Members of the public will recall that Mr. Minors & his girlfriend were shot multiple times as they were getting into their car, having just left the movies on this date.
Commissioner of Police Michael DeSilva - The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is announcing the introduction of TASER as a less-lethal use of force option in the list of approved defensive weapons being carried by police officers.
“TASER” is the manufacturer’s name for an Electronic Control Device (ECD) that is widely used by law enforcement agencies across the world as a less-lethal option of defensive force.
The total for all crime in the first quarter of 2010 decreased by -119 offences or -9.13% compared to fourth quarter of 2009. In comparison to the same period last year (first quarter of 2009), the first quarter of 2010 has decreased by -21 offences or by -1.74%. The total for the first quarter of 2010 was 1,185. The long term trend of all crime in Bermuda is stable with the most recent period of the first quarter 2010 the 4th lowest quarterly crime figure since the first quarter of 2000. Around 12 noon today, Police received a report of a serious assault on Middle Road in Sandys parish in the vicinity of Traditions Restaurant. Details about this incident are unclear at the moment; however, it appears that an altercation took place in the bus lay by across from Traditions Restaurant. As a result, a 17 year old Sandys parish man sustained serious stab wounds to his upper body. He was apparently taken to Port Royal Fire Station by a member of the public where he was treated by EMTs before being rushed to KEMH via ambulance. He is currently in critical but stable condition. A 17 year old St. George’s man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Around 1:15am today, Police attended a serious road traffic collision on North Shore Road in Devonshire near the Mid Atlantic Boat Club involving a car and a pedestrian. Details about how the collision occurred are unclear; however, it appears that the male pedestrian was walking along North Shore Road when he was struck by the car, which was traveling west on North Shore Road. The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was rushed to KEMH via ambulance but subsequently succumbed to those injuries. No further information will be released until the next of kin has been notified; however the identity of the male pedestrian is unknown at this time.
