Reports of Men with Guns on Court Street

At 2:25pm today, Police responded to a report of men in possession of firearms in a parking lot on Court Street in Pembroke. This resulted in Police units converging on the location and a number of searches being carried out. As a result, three men are in custody assisting Police with this inquiry however, no firearms were recovered.

Witness Appeal - Shooting in Sandys parish

Police continue to appeal for witnesses to the shooting that occurred around 2:15am Saturday in the Kitchener Close, Sandys parish area. As a result the victim, a 23 year old Sandys parish man, received gun shot wounds to his body. He is currently in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at KEMH.

An investigation into the matter is ongoing by officers from the Serious Crime Unit under the direction of Chief Inspector Nick Pedro and a 31 year old Sandys parish man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

UPDATE: Causeway Bridge, Airport re-opens

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - The Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO) is advising the public that the process of reopening the Causeway Bridge is underway, and it is expected that traffic should be able to cross the bridge from 8.30 p.m. onward.

However the Chairman of the EMO and Minister of Labour, Home Affairs and Housing, Sen. the Hon. Lt. Col. David Burch is "strongly urging" motorists particularly those on two wheeled vehicles to proceed with caution when traversing the bridge, as winds in the area remain elevated.

Airport Update

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - Following an assessment of the current weather conditions, a decision has been made by the Department of Airport Operations (DAO) to extend the closure of the L.F. Wade International Airport until 8.00 p.m. this evening.

This is as a result of severe wind conditions being experienced in the vicinity.

Causeway To Close Until 8.00 P.M.

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - The Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) is advising that wind gusts of 67 knots have been experienced in the vicinity of the Causeway Bridge.

As a result and in the overwhelming interest of public safety, a decision has been made by the Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO) to close the Causeway Bridge effective immediately until 8.00 p.m. tonight.

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - Public Advisories - The Island continues to experience severe and unsettled weather conditions which will remain in effect over the course of this afternoon and this evening.  

The Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) anticipates that winds will gradually increase to between 40 – 50 knots, reaching hurricane force gusts by late afternoon and up to 9.00 p.m.

Shooting in Sandys parish

A few minutes after 2am today, Police responded to a report of gun shots being fired in the area of Kitchener Close in Sandys parish. As a result a 23 year old Sandys parish man was taken to KEMH where he is presently being treated for multiple gun shot wounds to his body.

An investigation has commenced with officers from the Serious Crime Unit under the direction of Chief Inspector Nick Pedro. 

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to contact 295-0011 or the independent organization Crime Stoppers Bermuda on 800-8477.

Saturday Weather Advisory

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - The Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) is advising that the Island can expect to experience severe and unsettled weather conditions tomorrow (Saturday). 

According to the BWS it is anticipated that during the late afternoon hours of Saturday storm force winds are expected to be between 40-50 knots, with hurricane force gusts of up to 65 knots.

However, in the overwhelming interest of public safety, the Chairman of the EMO and Minister of Labour, Home Affairs and Housing, Sen. the Hon. Lt. Col. David Burch is "strongly urging" motorists on two wheeled vehicles, such as cycles, not to traverse the bridge, as winds in the area remain high.
