James Lawes Murder Investigation

The investigation into the murder of James Lawes is ongoing. A 30 year old Smith’s parish man is currently in custody in relation to this matter. A forensic pathologist has arrived on island to conduct an autopsy of the deceased.

The investigative team is making steady progress and wishes to thank those individuals who have assisted with their inquiries thus far. However, it is known that there were several people in the area around the time of Friday night’s shooting.

Sudden Death – Martin Molinski

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 26 year old Martin Molinski. Mr. Molinski was reported missing on Thursday, March 18th 2010. The Bermuda Police Service extends sincere condolences to the family & friends of the deceased.

Around 12 noon today, Police received a report of the lifeless body of a Caucasian man found along the coastline of Anchorage Road in St. George’s. The body was found by two German tourists exploring the area. Police attended the scene a short time later and conducted inquiries into the matter.

Update - Confirmed Firearm Incident

The Bermuda Police Service regrets to inform the public that Mr. James LAWES, one of the victims from the shooting of three persons on Dundonald Street on Friday night succumbed to his injuries overnight. We extend our condolences to his family and friends.

Confirmed Firearm Incidents

Around 10pm on Friday, Police responded to an incident that took place at Bulkhead Drive in Warwick. It appears that a group of men entered a residence, brandished and discharged a firearm; however no one was injured. A sword was also brandished, with one man receiving lacerations to his arms & body. He is at KEMH being treated for his injuries.

Meanwhile at 10:55pm on Friday, Police responded to a report of gunshots on Dundonald Street in Pembroke, in the parking lot of Place’s Place.

Attempted Theft

On Wednesday 17th March 2010, Police received a report of an attempted theft. A 13 year old boy from Smith’s Parish was allegedly assaulted by a young man in the vicinity of the ferry terminal in the City of Hamilton as he exited a bus. The suspect was unsuccessful in obtaining any property before fleeing.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to contact the Hamilton Police Station on 295-0011.

Pursuit/Damage Only RTC

At 2pm on Thursday, Police were conducting speed checks on Middle Road in Devonshire when a man on a motorcycle was observed traveling through the area at an excessive speed. As a result a pursuit took place through parts of Devonshire and Pembroke before the rider, a 17 year old Pembroke man, was apprehended behind Devonshire Preschool. Police also impounded the motorcycle.

At one point during the pursuit, the fleeing motorcycle was traveling west on Berry Hill Road (near the hospital’s overflow parking area) when it collided with a SUV traveling in the opposite direction; however the motorcycle kept going. Inquiries into the matter are ongoing.

Arrests & Court Appearance

Officers from the Eastern Criminal Investigation Unit have arrested two 25 year old males on suspicion of possessing a significant quantity of controlled drugs, which were packaged for sale. The two males, one from Pembroke and one from Warwick, were stopped and searched under the new PACE legislation, after having been seen behaving suspiciously on Middle Road, Warwick Thursday night (March 18th). When the motorcycle they were riding was searched, the suspected controlled drugs were found under the seat of the motorcycle. Both males were arrested and are presently helping Police with their enquiries at Southside Police Station.

Missing Person – Martin Molinski

Police are appealing for anyone who can help locate 27 year old Martin Molinski  who was last seen at his residence at #1 Long Lane Pembroke, between 8pm and 9pm on Wednesday March 17th, after being out with his friends. Molinski did not show up for work this morning (Thursday), so his friends went to his residence to check on him and he was not located at the residence.

Confirmed Firearm Incident in Pembroke

Around 5:15pm today, Police received a report of gunshots in the Curving Avenue, Pembroke area. Police attended the scene a short time later and conducted a thorough search of the vicinity. Forensic evidence found suggested that a firearm had been discharged; however no one reported being injured. Officers are currently maintaining a Police presence in area. An investigation into this matter is underway.
