Causeway Bridge Remains Closed

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - The Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO) is advising the public that based on the latest weather update from the Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) the Causeway Bridge will remain closed until 8.00 p.m.

This is due to the fact that winds in the area continue to be extremely high. There have been sustained wind speeds of 45-55 knots and it is expected that there will be hurricane force gusts over the next several hours.

UPDATE: Severe Weather

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - Causeway will remain closed until 4.00 p.m. - The Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO) moved to update the public on the latest weather related developments.

According to the Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) the Island remains under a Storm Warning, which will remain in effect until late this afternoon.

As a result, the Island will continue to experience severe and unsettled weather conditions resulting in sustained 45-55 knots winds with gusts of around 70 knots.

Update: Public Transportation

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - Ferry Service Suspended, Bus Service running normally - The Department of Marine and Ports has advised that due to the severe weather conditions, ferry service has been suspended until further notice. However, the Department of Public Transportation has advised that all bus service has resumed its normal schedule.

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - Causeway remains closed - This morning, the Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) reminded that the Island continues to experience severe and unsettled weather conditions.

This has resulted in the Island being buffeted over night by hurricane force winds greater than 50 knots.

In the in the interest of public safety, a decision was made late yesterday by the Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO) to close the bridge.

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - Public urged to be cautious - The Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) is advising that the Island will experience severe and unsettled weather conditions over the course of tomorrow (Wednesday) and Thursday. 

Late this afternoon, the Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO) met to discuss public safety precautions.  Residents are advised that starting late Wednesday morning, wind and rain will steadily increase throughout the day and into the evening.

Shooting in Somerset

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro, Serious Crime Unit - Approximately 1:15am on Wednesday 3rd February, 2010 Police Officers responded to a report of gun shots in the Scotts Hill area of Somerset. It was ascertained that a 24 year old male from the Somerset area was travelling on a motorcycle on Scotts Hill Road, Sandys parish when two males on a motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction shot at him. The victim sustained an injury to his right hand. He was treated at King Edward Memorial Hospital and later released. His injury is not considered serious.

Missing Juvenile – Troylene Anderson

The Bermuda Police Service is appealing for the public’s assistance in locating 17 year old Troylene Anderson. The Troylene Andersonteenager was last seen on Tuesday, January 26th 2010. She is described as 5’5” tall weighing approximately 186 pounds with short curly reddish brown hair and is known to frequent the St. Monica’s Road, Pembroke area. Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of 17 year old Troylene Anderson is encouraged to contact the Vulnerable Persons Unit on 295-0011.

From the Government Department of Communication & Information - Public urged to be cautious - The Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) is advising that the Island will experience unsettled weather conditions over the course of this weekend (Saturday and Sunday).

It's anticipated that tomorrow wind and rain will increase throughout the day and into the evening. On Sunday, the public can expect to experience the windiest conditions mainly throughout the afternoon and evening.

2009 End of Year Crime Statistics

Executive Summary - The long term trend for all crime over the last 10 years (01-Jan-2000 to 31-December-2009) is decreasing. All crime for 2009 is -217 offences lower than 2008 and -787 offences lower than 2000. In comparison to the previous quarter, the fourth quarter is -140 offences lower than the third quarter of 2009; however in comparison to the same period last year, the fourth quarter of 2009 is 10 offences higher than the fourth quarter of 2008.
