Two People Reported Hurt After Two Buses Collide in Southampton [Updated]

Early information indicates that around 1:20pm today (July 9th) two Department of Public Transportation buses collided near the junction of Middle Road and South Road in Southampton, in the vicinity of Barnes Corner.

Police and fellow first responders attended the scene, but details remain limited at this time.

However, it is understood that two people were hurt and transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment.

Three Motorists Arrested for Impaired Driving Over the Weekend

Three motorists were arrested for impaired driving offences over the weekend, with road sobriety checkpoints conducted in six parishes from the evening of Friday, July 5th until the evening of Sunday, July 7th.

There are no road sobriety checkpoints scheduled for this coming weekend.

However, members of the public are urged not to drive, ride or operate a boat under the influence – for their own safety and that of all road users as well as those navigating our waters.

Reported Missing Person: 43 Year Old Tamara Smith [Located]

The Bermuda Police Service is appealing for the public’s assistance in locating 43 year old Tamara Smith.

Ms. Smith is described as brown complexioned, 5 feet 9 inches tall of medium build.

A family member reported her missing this afternoon (Thursday, July 4th).

She was apparently last seen on Sunday, June 30th in St. George’s and is known to frequent East End Mini Yacht Club, the Town of St. George’s and Spinning Wheel Nightclub.

There is concern for Ms. Smith, as it is understood she requires specific medication.

Community Meet & Greet Clinic in Smith’s Parish on Saturday

The Parish Constable for Smith’s parish, Constable Terry Paynter, will be conducting a community outreach clinic to meet and greet area residents Saturday, July 6th from 9am until 1pm at the A1 Smith’s grocery store on South Road near Collector’s Hill.

This event will allow members of the public an opportunity to:

Voice any concerns about ongoing anti-social or criminal activity occurring in their neighbourhoods and Bermuda as a whole.

Appeal for Information: Yuval Joshua Abraham [Apprehended]

Acting Detective Superintendent Nicholas Pedro (Crime Division) – Following a complaint from Hiscox Group of Companies, officers of the Bermuda Police Service launched an investigation into Mr. Abraham, the former Chief Financial Officer.

The allegation was that Mr. Abraham abused his position in order to defraud the company of approximately $1.8 million. Mr. Abraham left Bermuda before an arrest could be made. 

The following criminal charges have been approved:

Eight counts of Obtaining a Money Transfer by Deception, contrary to Section 346(1) of the Criminal Code;

Nine counts of False Accounting, contrary to Section 351(1)(b) of the Criminal Code;

One count of Attempting to Obtain a Money Transfer by Deception, contrary to Section 32 as read with Section 346(1) of the Criminal Code; and

One count of Money Laundering, contrary to Section 43(1)(e) of the Proceeds of Crime Act 1997.

Information has been laid before the Court and an arrest warrant was issued for Mr. Abraham.

Appeal for Information: Ramesh Phillipe Dusoruth [Apprehended]

Acting Detective Superintendent Nicholas Pedro (Crime Division) – Following a complaint from the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) regarding St. George’s Ltd., detectives from the Financial Crime Unit of the Bermuda Police Service arrested Mr. Dusoruth, the company owner, regarding allegations of misuse of several million dollars of investors’ money.

Mr. Dusoruth was subsequently charged with the following offences:

One count of Fraudulent Inducement to Deposit or Invest – Contrary to Section 404 Criminal Code 1907;

One count of Transferring Criminal Property – Contrary to Section 43 Proceeds of Crime Act 1997; and

Three counts of Transmitting False Information to the Bermuda Monetary Authority – Contrary to Section 33 Bermuda Monetary Act 1969.

Mr. Dusoruth was bailed from police custody and subsequently failed to appear before Hamilton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 21st March 2019. The Court has issued an arrest warrant for Mr. Dusoruth.

Off Duty Male Police Officer, 22, Recovering in ICU After Crash Now Stable

At last check this morning (July 3rd) the 22 year old off duty male Constable seriously injured in a single vehicle motorcycle crash that occurred around 2:45am Sunday, June 23rd on Crow Lane in Pembroke continued to recover in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit and is now listed in stable condition.

Witness Appeal: South Road, Warwick Car Crash Friday Night

Around 11:45pm Friday, June 28th police officers responded to a reported single vehicle car crash on South Road in Warwick, near the junction with Warwick Lane.

On arrival, a damaged and unoccupied white Toyota RAV4 was found parked on the grass verge of South Road, in the vicinity of Astwood Park.

Arrest Made in Connection with Blue Hole Hill Park Armed Robbery

A 42 year old man has been arrested in connection with the reported armed robbery that occurred at Blue Hole Hill Park on the afternoon of Sunday, June 16th.

He remains in police custody at this time, pending further inquiries.

Police Appeal for Witnesses to Disturbance at Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club Grounds

Police attended a disturbance at the Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club grounds in Hamilton Parish around 8pm Wednesday, 26th June resulting in three men and one woman being arrested.

Two of those persons (a 35 year old woman and a 25 year old man) appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning (Thursday, June 27th). Both were charged with assaulting police and released on court bail until their next scheduled court appearance.
