Inquiries Underway After Unconfirmed Firearm Incident in Pembroke

Around 9:30pm Monday, October 28th police officers responded to a report of a single gunshot in the Spruce Lane, Pembroke area.

So far there is no forensic evidence to substantiate the report that a firearm was discharged and no one has attended King Edward VII Memorial Hospital seeking treatment for a gunshot wound.

Two Burglary Suspects Arrested, Residents Still Advised to be Vigilant

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with recent burglaries and inquiries continue regarding those matters.

However, residents are still encouraged to be vigilant for suspicious individuals in their neighbourhoods and to secure their homes by ensuring all windows and doors are locked before leaving their property unattended.

Criminals will look for insecure houses and unlocked vehicles as they are easier targets.

Policing Plan & Safety Advice for Halloween

Halloween is one week away! On Thursday, October 31st many children and adults will dress up in costumes to enjoy a host of activities across the island. Typically, children taking part in the festivities will go door to door to collect candy and adults will also gather at a variety of private Halloween functions, including during the weekend.

Foreign Nationals Convicted for Theft After Successful Investigations

Between January and October 2019, the Bermuda Police Service has conducted a number of successful investigations resulting in prosecution and conviction before the courts, of several foreign nationals for theft from a number of local financial institutions.

Six individuals from countries in Eastern Europe as well as France and Puerto Rico, have been sentenced to periods of incarceration ranging from nine months to nineteen months as a result of these investigations.

Public Warned About Sharing Defamatory Messages on Social Media

Around 7:40am Tuesday, October 22nd a report of willful damage was made to police regarding offensive graffiti spray painted on the wall of a Harbour Road, Paget residence near Lower Ferry.

The offensive graffiti has since been painted over, but not before images of the defamatory message were circulated on social media.

The Bermuda Police Service would like to advise members of the public not to further circulate the defamatory message – or any similar message.

Reported Missing Person: 60 Year Old Gilbert Caisey [Located]

The Bermuda Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating 60 year old Mr. Gilbert Caisey.

Mr. Caisey is a black male, approximately five foot six inches tall, slim built and bald.

He was last seen wearing light  and dark blue sweat pants, a white T-shirt and blue Nike sneakers with a green Nike swoosh.

Mr. Caisey, who suffers with dementia, was last seen at the King Edward Memorial Hospital at around 8:50 this morning by hospital staff.

At the time he was reportedly walking toward the City of Hamilton.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mr. Gilbert Caisey, is asked to contact the Bermuda Police Service on 295-0011.

Update: Please be advised that Mr. Caisey has now been found. Thank you for your assistance.

Reported Missing Person: 83 Year Old Richard Bascome Snr. [Located]

The Bermuda Police Service is appealing for the public’s assistance in locating 83 year old Richard Bascome Snr.

Mr. Bascome is described as a black male, approximately 6 feet tall of slim build with grey hair.

He was apparently last seen around 6pm Sunday, October 20th at his Greenfield Lane, Sandys parish home wearing blue jeans, a pleated multi-coloured shirt and a black hat by a family member.

There is concern for his wellbeing and so far efforts by police to locate Mr. Bascome in the surrounding area of Westover Farm have proven unsuccessful.

Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of 83 year old Richard Bascome Snr. is encouraged to call the main police telephone number 295-0011 at the earliest opportunity.

Update: Monday, October 21st - The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the public for their assistance in locating 83 year old Richard Bascome Snr.

He was eventually found in the Somerset Road, Cambridge Road Sandys parish area in good health and has been reunited with his family.

Motorists Once Again Advised to Be Vigilant for Motorcycle Bandit

The Bermuda Police Service is aware of a few recent incidents where a male motorcyclist has confronted car drivers claiming that they were in collision with his motorcycle – or alternatively crossed into his path, forcing him off the road – causing damage to his motorcycle.

He then demands that the ‘offending’ motorist give him money to repair the alleged damage to his motorcycle. This same activity occurred approximately one year ago.

Escape Thwarted: Police Officer Stops Man Attempting to Flee From Court

Quick action by a member of the Bermuda Police Service today thwarted an escape attempt from the Magistrates’ Court.

Thirty one year old Howard Ascento was in court for breaching a domestic violence protection order.

Upon learning that he would be remanded into custody, Mr. Ascento vaulted the secure holding area and ran from the court room, pushing past a police officer.

Male Motorcyclist & Male 50cc Scooter Rider Collide in Southampton

Around 12:10am Sunday, October 13th police, fire and ambulance personnel were dispatched to a reported serious collision on Middle Road in Southampton near Hawthorn Lane.

It appears that a male motorcyclist and a male 50cc scooter rider traveling in opposite directions along Middle Road collided in the vicinity of the Wok Express.
