The Bermuda Police Service has recently received reports of suspected firearm activity in the St. Monica’s Road, Pembroke area and increased violence involving young men associated with the ‘gang culture.’ In light of these reports, we wish to reassure the public that the Police are aware of these activities and that we will be responding appropriately.

Bermudian Sentenced in the US on Drug Charges

On Saturday 5th January 2008 an American registered yacht was intercepted by US Coast Guard in the waters off The Bahamas. There were two males on board the vessel at the time, a US citizen who was the owner of the yacht and a 35 year old Bermudian Norman O’Donnell Rayner of Pembroke. A search of the yacht uncovered a shipment of cannabis weighing approximately one ton (one thousand kilogrammes).

Sudden Death

At 12:04pm on Wednesday, Police responded to a report of a sudden death that took place at a residence on South Road in Paget. Police initially received information that a 61 year old man had not been seen for a few days; this with other factors caused Police to gain entry into his home where they found the body of 61 year old Harold Davis of Paget in a non responsive state.

Cup Match Press Conference

The Cup Match period is one of the busiest policing periods in Bermuda. This year Cup Match is being held at the Somerset Cricket Club. The Bermuda Police Service has prepared contingency plans to ensure that the Cup Match period is safe for all residents and visitors on the island. We are advising the public that there will be a heavy Police presence on the streets, on the water, at the game and any other major events taking place between now and Sunday 3rd August.

Drowning

Police responded to a report of a drowning that took place a few minutes after 5pm on Sunday in the waters off of Pompano Beach Resort. On arrival officers were told that there were persons on a floating raft several hundred metres out from the shore with an unresponsive male on the raft. The Police Marine Unit arrived on the scene and removed the 67 year old man (visitor from the USA) from the floating raft and transported him to Robinsons Marina Wharf, where first responders then transported the victim to KEMH via ambulance. On arrival the 67 year old man was pronounced dead at 5:58.pm.
