Investigation Continues: Spirit of Bermuda & Resolute Collision

It now appears that two persons, believed to be an 18 year old Pembroke woman and a 25 year old Pembroke man, sustained non-life threatening injuries when the sailing vessel ‘Spirit of Bermuda’ and the Government ferry ‘Resolute’ collided in waters near Dockyard Friday night.

In addition to both vessels being damaged, apparently three motorcycles on the ferry at the time were also damaged.

Sailboat & Ferry Collide Near Dockyard: No Reported Injuries [Updated]

Marine police responded to a reported maritime collision Friday night (September 8th) involving the sailing vessel ‘Spirit of Bermuda’ and the Government ferry ‘Resolute’ in waters near Dockyard.

There are no reported injuries at this time and the extent of any damage to either vessel is currently unclear.

Civilian watercraft came to the assistance of both vessels involved, transporting passengers safely ashore.

Witness Appeal: Incident at Warwick Lanes

The Bermuda Police Service is aware of a social media message circulating regarding an incident that occurred at Warwick Lanes bowling alley Thursday evening (September 7th) involving an adult male and a child.

A report was made to police and a 29 year old man has been arrested in connection with the matter.

The circumstances of the incident are currently under investigation and any witnesses or persons with additional information are encouraged to contact police on 295-0011.

Department of Corrections Crowned King of the Grill at Charity Event

Constable Kimberley Spring – On Saturday 2nd September 2017, the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) hosted the first ever Inter-Service BBQ Challenge, titled “King of the Grill,” at the Police Recreation Club in Prospect.

Six government agencies took part in the historic challenge which was attended by over 300 guests, including H.E. the Governor Mr. John Rankin and U.S. Consul General Mrs. Mary Ellen Koenig.

Sudden Death of Visitor

Around 11am today (Wednesday, August 23rd) police and first responders were dispatched to a report of an unresponsive man floating in the water near Dockyard.

The man, believed to be an 80 year old cruise ship visitor, was apparently snorkelling with a tour group at the time.

The senior citizen was retrieved from the water, given CPR and rushed via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where sadly, he was later pronounced dead.

Advisory: Rental Accommodation Online Scam

The Bermuda Police Service would like to remind members of the public to be vigilant when making any purchases using the internet.

A recent reported scam involved a fake rental accommodation advertisement posted on a local online classifieds site.

The alleged contact person for the fraudulent posting, a ‘Dr. Jonathan Moore’, claimed that two month’s rent plus security deposit for the apartment should be sent via wire transfer to a specific overseas account.

Sudden Death of Sean Tavares

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 51 year old Sean Tavares and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Mr. Tavares was found in an unresponsive state at the American International Building in Pembroke around 7:30am Friday, August 18th and transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance where he was later pronounced dead.

As previously stated foul play is not suspected. However, an autopsy is anticipated.

Witness Appeal: Murder of Jahkoby Smith

Around 7:15pm on Saturday 29th July, Jahkoby Smith was fatally stabbed after he was involved in an altercation which took place at the West End Sailboat Club, Sandys, during a wake being held for the late Jachari Francis.

Police continue to appeal for witnesses to this incident. Anyone who may have information, particularly anyone who was at the West End Sailboat Club or in the general vicinity around the time of the incident or anyone knowing the movements of Jahkoby Smith prior to this incident, is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Dean Martin of the Serious Crime Unit on 247-1739 or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.
