Death of Reserve Officer PC Dawn Jeffrey (Darby)

It is with deep sadness that the Bermuda Police Service and the Bermuda Reserve Police report the death of our colleague, PC 1181 Dawn Jeffrey (Darby) of the Bermuda Reserve Police. Dawn passed away earlier today at the hospital, at the age of 55.

PC 1181 Dawn Darby joined the Bermuda Reserve Police on November 1994. She was consistent with her service to the Bermuda Reserve Police and has spent her whole police career attached to the Western Division.

PC Darby sat and passed the promotion exams in 1998 and spent the following two years as an Acting Sergeant. She was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2003 and thereafter served several periods as an Acting Inspector.

Submerged Car Located in Waters Off Astwood Park [Updated]

At 10:22am Saturday police and other first responders attended a report of a car submerged in the waters off of Astwood Park/Cove.

Presently the area has been cordoned off whilst officers assess the situation.

We will keep you apprised of any new developments.

Motorcyclist Hurt in Hamilton Parish Crash Discharged From Hospital

At last check earlier today (January 4th) the 31 year old Warwick man injured when the motorcycle he was riding apparently struck a wall along North Shore Road, Hamilton parish in the vicinity of Francis Patton Primary School around 8:25pm Monday, January 1st had since been discharged from the hospital after initially receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit.

Inquiries continue and any witnesses that have not already come forward are asked to contact the main police telephone number 295-0011.

Update on Incidents at Fairmont Southampton

Police can confirm that three men remain in police custody as a result of the incidents that took place at the Fairmont Southampton Resort and a 23 year old man is listed in stable condition in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit after being assaulted.

Police have also recovered a quantity of jewellery and other personal items from individuals who were robbed.

Reported Serious Collision: North Shore Road, Hamilton Parish [Updated]

At 8:25pm on Monday, January 1, police and other first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision that took place on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish. It appears that a 31 year old Warwick man was traveling west on North Shore Road when the rider overtook traffic and collided with a wall near the bus stop across from the Francis Patton school.

The male was taken to the hospital where he is being treated for injuries that are classified at this point as serious.

Anti-Social Activity at Fairmont Southampton [Added Clarification]

At 2:52am, police were called to the Fairmont Southampton on a report of suspicious activity in a room of the hotel. Upon police arrival, they noticed a large crowd assembled in the room, loud music and the smell of marijuana.

Police whilst at the hotel, noticed a considerable amount of broken glass in the lobby of the hotel. It was ascertained that prior to the police arrival, a disturbance occurred that saw a number of males involved in a melee where projectiles were thrown.

Man Arrested on BA Flight

Bermuda Police attended a report of an unruly passenger onboard an inbound British Airways flight from Gatwick Airport at 7pm on Sunday.

It appears that a 54 year old man had consumed too much alcohol and became belligerent and verbally abusive to crew and fellow passengers.

When the plane landed in Bermuda the 54 year old man was taken to Hamilton Police Station where he was processed and detained.

Policing Over New Year's Weekend

The Bermuda Police Service will be highly visible over the long New Year’s weekend and specifically New Year’s Eve (NYE) with a view to prevent incidents of antisocial behavior around the many functions and events that are planned.

On NYE, officers will be deployed in the Town of St. George as well the Hamilton City Centre in particular.

Taxi Driver Arrested on Suspicion of Impaired Driving

Police responded to a report of a collision that took place at 8:57pm Wednesday, December 27th on North Shore Road in Devonshire. It appears that a taxi driver lost control of his vehicle and collided with a wall.

As a result of the incident the driver of the taxi, a 74 year old man, was arrested for suspicion of driving whilst impaired and an investigation into this incident is now underway.

No Significant Incidents Over Christmas Holiday Period

Over the holiday period there were no significant calls for police service. We would like to thank the public for their cooperation and we will continue to work with the public and our community partners to ensure the New Year’s period is the same.

During the Christmas period 48 persons were arrested for various offences. Ten persons were arrested for DUI and 50 tickets were issued for a range of matters including drugs, theft and traffic matters.
