A total of 10 motorists were arrested on suspicion of impaired driving from Friday night (December 28th 2018) until Tuesday night (January 1st 2019).
More than half of those arrested were caught at road sobriety checkpoints.
The main objectives of the road sobriety checkpoints are to help make the roads safer and ultimately save lives.
The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 24 year old Mr. Adrian Hassell and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Mr. Hassell, believed to be a Sandys parish resident, was seriously injured when the private powerboat he was traveling in struck rocks near Lefroy House in Sandys parish around 4:40am Tuesday, January 1st (New Year’s Day).
At 4:41am police received a call from a staff member at Lefroy House, Lagoon Road, Sandys requesting medical assistance for a male who came knocking on their door for help.
Details are still unclear but it appears that 3 persons, two males and one female went on an excursion on an 18ft vessel and hit the rocks.
One of the males was unresponsive and subsequently taken to the hospital via ambulance where he later was pronounced dead.
Commissioner of Police Mr. Stephen Corbishley - Over the last 72 hours we have seen an increase in tensions between gangs on the island. This came to a head with the murder of Ronniko Burchall on Saturday morning.
At present a 31 year old man has been arrested in connection with this matter and a full investigation has commenced by the Serious Crime Unit.
Over the next few days the public can expect to see heightened levels of policing activity throughout the island, and there may be some inconvenience as officers engage the public.
Acting Inspector of the Serious Crime Unit Jason Smith - On Friday 28 December 2018, St David’s Cricket Club held their annual Christmas party for their members and supporters at the clubhouse in St David’s.
About 1:40am Saturday morning 29th December while patrons were socializing and enjoying the festivities, a male brandishing a firearm shot 30-year old Ronniko Rodney Burchall multiple times as he stood outside of the cricket club. The suspect left on foot and it is believed that he ran towards the general area of Cashew City, St. David’s.
Police responded to a report of a firearms incident that took place at 1:40am in St David's.
Upon police arrival it was ascertained that a male was standing outside of the St. David's Cricket Club when a man walked up and shot him.
The suspect left the area and the victim was taken to the hospital via the ambulance and his condition is unknown at this time.
Police and first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision that took place at 4:15pm today (Friday) on Middle Road Warwick 100 meters west of Keith Hall Road.
It appears that a male on a motorcycle was traveling west on Middle Road when it appears he collided with a female on a motorcycle traveling in the opposite direction.
Both victims were taken to the hospital and their condition is unknown at this time.
Police can now confirm the death of 70 year old Mary Brady who died as a result of a collision that took place on Vesey Street in Devonshire, at 12:24pm on December 26th. Upon police arrival it was ascertained that a female was trapped under a car.
Bermuda Fire and Rescue were on the scene and extricated the woman from under the car. She was transported via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 12:54pm. An investigation into the death of Ms. Brady is now underway and the Bermuda Police Service extends our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

On Monday at 5:15pm officers were stationary at Christ Church Warwick when a male on a blue and white unregistered motocross cycle was seen travelling westerly on Middle Road in Warwick.
Police activated emergency lights/sirens and the cycle failed to stop. The cycle turned left onto Khyber Pass, west along Spice Road, turning right onto Camp Road then the rider took a right onto Middle Road where the rider lost control of the cycle near Manse Road Paget.
