Around 1:35 this morning, Police responded to a report of a shooting at a Hinson Lane, Smith’s parish residence. It appears that two unknown men gained entry into a home and demanded money. This resulted in a 62 year old Smith’s parish man being shot. He was rushed to KEMH via ambulance where he is currently listed in critical condition. An investigation into this incident is underway by the Serious Crime Unit. Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the Hinson Lane/Kilderry Estate area to contact 295-0011 or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.

Over the last few days there has been a host of comments in the media as it relates to MV Guardian. The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) takes the unwarranted criticism of our staff very seriously and this matter is of enough concern to us that the Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner are here to address all of the issues. We would like to take this opportunity to correct some of the misconceptions that exist:
The Bermuda Police Service is asking for the public’s assistance in locating 17 year old Troylene Anderson. She was most
recently seen around 3pm today in the Middle Road, Warwick area (near Hayward’s Supermarket). The teenager is described as brown skinned, 5’5” tall of medium build, weighing around 160 pounds with short brown hair.
The facts relating to the rescue of local sailing vessel ‘Ayesha’ recently were inaccurately reported by some local media. The following is a time-line of the incident:
The Commissioner of Police is pleased to announce the following promotions: Promoted to Sergeant, Sergeant Clifford S. Roberts - Sergeant Clifford. S. Roberts Jr., a Bermudian, joined the Bermuda Police Service in 1986 as a Police Cadet. He then completed the Basic Training Course where he received the Baton of Honour. He has served as a Parish Constable as well as in Cycle Squad, Traffic Division and Narcotics. Presently he is attached to COMOPS.
At 5:15am today, Police received a report of a serious assault on Reid Street in the City of Hamilton, near the junction with Court Street. Details about what occurred are unclear at the moment; however the victim, a 31 year old St. George’s man, was found in an unresponsive state lying in the road by a member of the public. The St.
Around 9:45pm on Tuesday, Police executed a search warrant at a Club Road, Smith’s parish residence. As a result, a 38 year old Smith’s parish man was arrested and a quantity of suspected controlled drug seized. The Smith’s parish man was subsequently bailed. Inquiries are ongoing.
The Bermuda Police Service is appealing for the public’s assistance in locating 14 year old Champagne Carmichael. The
teenager was last seen in the St. David’s area in the early hours of this morning. She is described as dark skinned, 5’6” tall weighing around 145 pounds and was last seen wearing a dark coloured dress. Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of 14 year old Champagne Carmichael is encouraged to contact the main Police number, 295-0011. The public is reminded that harbouring a juvenile is a crime punishable under the law.
The funeral of Sergeant Gary Young, a 31 year veteran of the Bermuda Police Service, will take place 2pm Friday, August 7th 2009 at The Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity on Church Street in the City of Hamilton. There will be some disruption to traffic in the City of Hamilton as the Bermuda Police Service pays respects to their colleague.
