Man Injured In Pembroke Shooting

Around 5pm on Saturday, December 1st police responded to a report of gunshots in the North Shore Road, Band Room Lane Pembroke area.

It appears that a man was on a motorcycle when two men on another motorcycle gave chase, shooting the victim at the junction.

The 20 year old Pembroke man attended King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injury, which is not believed to be life threatening.

Memorial Service for Police Constable Garth Francis

A memorial service for the late Police Constable Garth Francis is scheduled to be held at 2:30pm on Wednesday 28th November 2012 at the Heritage Worship Centre, Dundonald Street Pembroke.

Members of the public are invited to join with the late police officer’s colleagues in remembering his life and service to Bermuda.

Dignitaries are also expected to be in attendance and as a result minimal traffic interruptions in the area are anticipated prior to and following the memorial service.

Recognition of Community Support in Sandys Search Effort

The Bermuda Police Service and the family of Mr. Dereck Spenser would like to recognize the marine and land search efforts of everyone that assisted officers from the Marine Unit and Underwater Search & Recovery Team since Wednesday, November 21st in the Sandys parish area.

Sudden Death of Mr. Dereck Spenser

Around 9am on Sunday, November 25th a body was found in the waters off Bethell’s Island in Ely’s Harbour, Sandys parish. Police officers immediately responded to the scene and confirmed recovery of the lifeless body, which was subsequently identified as 49 year old Mr. Dereck Spenser, reported missing since Wednesday, November 21st.

An autopsy is anticipated in due course as inquiries continue into the sudden death of Mr. Spenser. A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to Mr. Spenser’s family to assist them at this tragic time.

Update: Search for Mr. Dereck Spenser

Around 9am on Saturday, November 24th the marine and land search for Mr. Dereck Spenser resumed. However, despite all efforts of the assembled volunteers and police personnel, Mr. Spenser was not located. The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank everyone that assisted in today’s search efforts, which were suspended around 4:45pm. Inquiries into the disappearance of Mr. Spenser are ongoing and anyone with any information on his whereabouts or last known movements is encouraged to contact police on 295-0011.

Marine Search Suspended for Mr. Dereck Spenser

At 4:15pm on Thursday, November 22nd the marine search for Mr. Dereck Spenser was suspended by dive teams in the Ely’s Harbour, Sandys parish area due to low visibility. The marine search is scheduled to resume at 9am Friday, November 23rd.

The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank those members of the maritime community that used their vessels to assist with the initial marine search effort.

Inquiries into the disappearance of Mr. Spenser are ongoing and anyone with any information on his movements since 4:30pm Wednesday, November 21st is urged to contact the police immediately on 295-0011.

Missing Person: Dereck Spenser

The Bermuda Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating 49 year old Mr. Dereck Spenser, who was last seen about 4:30pm Wednesday afternoon, the 21st November 2012. At that time, he left his place of employment in the Dockyard area, on his motorcycle.

Mr. Spenser lives on a houseboat in Ely’s Harbour and parks his motorcycle adjacent to Robinson’s Marina, Somerset Bridge, Somerset. Mr. Spenser’s motorcycle is parked in its regular position, but the punt that he normally uses to access his houseboat in the harbour is missing and he is not on his houseboat.

Routine enquiries to locate Mr. Spenser have so far been unsuccessful. Anyone with any information as to Mr. Spenser’s whereabouts or his movements since Wednesday afternoon, is urged to contact the police immediately on 295-0011.

Safety Training Now Mandatory For All Police Officers

Police officers of all ranks today converged on the Police Gym in Prospect for Officer Safety Training (OST). Until recently only officers at the rank of Chief Inspector and below were required to receive officer safety training.

That has now changed and all officers including the Commissioner of Police must be officer safety trained.

This acknowledges the fact that all officers can be called upon at a moment’s notice and they must be prepared.  The all-inclusive officer safety training has been well received by the Bermuda Police Service.

Advisory Regarding Circulating Child Abusive Images

In 2012 there has been an increase in sexually explicit images being passed around the island via various electronic means. Many people are passing these images onto family and friends in their electronic network. Knowingly and unknowingly in the distribution and transmitting you may be committing offences under our law.

Reported Serious Collision in Warwick

Around 8:15pm on Friday, November 9th police and first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision located on South Road in Warwick near Marley Beaches.

Details are sketchy but it appears that three motorcycles were involved in a collision and as a result four persons were injured. At this time, a 16 year old male and an 18 year old male have been taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. At last check the 16 year old was in the Intensive Care Unit in fair condition and the 18 year old was recovering on a general ward.
