Traffic on Front Street Returns to Normal After Fire

As a result of Thursday morning's fire on Front Street, in the City of Hamilton, the front of the Ann Cartwright DeCouto Building has been secured and no entry and danger signs have been placed prominently on the property.

Front Street is now open to all traffic and a temporary sidewalk placed on the northern edge.

Death of Norwegian Breakaway Crewman

At 11:59am today first responders attended King’s Wharf in Dockyard to an incident onboard the cruise ship Norwegian Breakaway.

During conduct of the ship’s weekly safety and training drills, a lifeboat broke from its tethering and fell into the water.

Four male crew members were onboard the lifeboat and were injured during the fall.

Appeal for Information Regarding Overturned Driving School Vehicle

Around 9:30pm on Monday, July 11th a driving school vehicle was found overturned at the junction of Prospect Road and CedarBridge Lane in Devonshire.

At this time it is unclear how the car ended up on its roof.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or persons with information regarding this incident to call the main police telephone number on 295-0011.

Investigation Continues: Gunshots in Rambling Lane, Pembroke Area

Detectives continue to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information regarding the non-injury firearm incident that occurred around 10:55pm Monday, July 11th in the Rambling Lane, Fentons Drive Pembroke area. 

The investigative team is particularly interested in speaking to persons that may have seen two males in all black clothing in the area at that time.

Both suspects are believed to have arrived on foot and left on foot.

Reported Gunshots in Rambling Lane, Fentons Drive Pembroke Area

At 10:55pm, police received reports of gunshots being heard in the Central Pembroke area. Upon police arrival, it was forensically ascertained that a firearm had been discharged in the Rambling Lane/Fentons Drive area. However, at this juncture, it does not appear that anyone was injured. The area has been cordoned off and the relevant officers are processing the scene and an investigation has commenced. Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have seen two men acting suspiciously in the area to contact police at 295-0011 or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477.

Death of 38 Year Old Canadian Visitor Ashwin Bhandarkar

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 38 year old Canadian visitor Ashwin Bhandarkar and extends condolences to his family.

It appears that around 6:30pm Saturday, July 9th Mr. Bhandarkar was swimming in the pool at Dawkins Manor in Paget when he ran into difficulty.

Members of the public pulled him out of the pool and initially performed CPR until EMTs arrived on scene to continue with life-saving efforts.

Dawkins Manor Drowning

At 6:31pm‬ police and first responders attended a report of an incident that took place at Dawkins Manor in Paget ‪at 6:31pm‬ on Sarturday.

It appears that a 38 year old Canadian male was swimming in the property's pool and ran into difficulty. Paramedics were called and they commenced CPR. Subsequently the 38 year old man was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

No further information will be given until the next of kin is notified.

Man Injured, Arrest Made After Disturbance Outside Docksiders Bar & Restaurant

Police responded to a report of a disturbance that took place outside of Docksiders Bar and Restaurant on Front Street in the City of Hamilton a few minutes before 7:10pm (Wednesday night).
 
It appears that a large group of individuals were congregated at the establishment to celebrate a recently concluded televised international football match.
 
At some point an altercation took place with multiple individuals.

65 Year Old Calvin O'Mara Named as Seventh Road Fatality of 2016

Police can confirm the death of 65 year old Calvin O’Mara who died as a result of injuries sustained in a collision that took place around 9am (Wednesday, July 6th) at the junction of Harrington Sound Road and Broken Hill Road in Smith’s Parish. 

It appears that the 65 year old male motorcyclist was traveling down Broken Hill Road when he collided with a trash truck that was traveling on Harrington Sound Road.

As a result, he was pronounced dead at 9:46am by an on call physician.

Seventh Road Fatality of 2016 [Updated]

Around 9am on Wednesday, July 6th police and other first responders attended a report of a serious road traffic collision that took place at the junction of Harrington Sound Road and Broken Hill Road in Smith’s parish.

It appears that a 65 year old male motorcyclist was traveling down Broken Hill Road when he collided with a trash truck that was traveling on Harrington Sound Road.

As a result the 65 year old man was pronounced dead at the scene by an on call physician.
