Upcoming Recruitment Information Sessions

Information sessions regarding the recruitment process for Bermuda Police Service Cadets and Constables as well as Bermuda Reserve Police volunteer Constables are being held at the Police Recreation Club in Prospect, Devonshire 6pm tomorrow (Wednesday 12th April) and 6pm the following Wednesday (19th April).

The recruiting team will be on hand at both sessions to answer any questions that applicants or interested individuals may have and can also be reached by phone on 247-1785 or e-mail recruiting@bps.bm.

Three Reported Incidents in St. George's Involving Taxi Drivers

During the weekend, two robberies and an attempted robbery involving taxi drivers were reported in St. George's.

A reported robbery occurred around 11:15pm Friday, April 7th in the Mid Ocean Drive, St. George's area where it appears that a stationary taxi at the Mid Ocean dock was approached by two unknown men demanding money - one reportedly brandishing a firearm. Apparently the suspects took a quantity of cash and the male taxi driver sustained a laceration to the head, which was not considered life threatening

Public Requested to be Considerate When Flying Kites

Easter in Bermuda is warmly associated with the flying of kites, both the traditional and "artificial" variety. The season this year, however, has been punctuated by a sharp increase in public complaints about noisy and annoying kite flying.

There are a small number of people who constantly disturb and frustrate their neighbours by flying extremely loud kites in several neighbourhoods throughout Bermuda.

Policing Plans for Court Appearances

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) previously announced that summonses have been issued in relation to the protests at the House of Assembly on 2nd December 2016. The defendants in these cases will appear in Hamilton Magistrates' Court on the 5th, 7th, 10th and 12th April.

The BPS is aware that calls are being made from sectors of the community for members of the public to show support for the defendants by assembling at the Court. The police are putting plans in place in the event that large numbers of people attend on the days mentioned.

Bermuda Police Service Recruitment Underway

The Bermuda Police Service is currently recruiting, with interested candidates invited to apply for consideration as a Cadet, Reserve Constable or full time Constable.

Cadet applicants:

must be between the ages of 16 and 21 years old at the start of the contract.

Police Investigation Into December 2nd 2016 Protest Concluded

There are three separate issues relating to the events of Friday, December 2nd 2016:

1. The independent peer review report prepared by a senior UK police officer.

2. The BPS investigation into allegations of criminal conduct by some protestors.

3. The investigation into complaints by members of the public against police officers.

Suspicious Death of Bermudian Man in Jamaica

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is aware of the death of a Bermudian man in Jamaica under suspicious circumstances.

A BPS Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to the deceased's family to assist during this difficult time.

We are continuing to reach out to the Jamaican authorities for more information and to offer assistance as best we can.

Condition Update: Truck Crashes Over Embankment in Southampton

At last check the 33 year old Southampton woman driving the truck involved in a reported single vehicle truck crash on South Road in Southampton near the junction with Dolphin Ridge around 11:30pm Wednesday, March 29th remained at the hospital receiving treatment for her injuries and will likely be admitted.

The 27 year old Southampton woman who was a passenger in the vehicle at the time and also injured, was treated and later discharged.

Truck Crashes Over Embankment in Southampton [Updated]

Around 11:30pm Wednesday, March 29th police and Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service personnel were dispatched to a reported single vehicle truck crash on South Road in Southampton near the junction with Dolphin Ridge.

Details regarding circumstances of the crash are limited at this time, but the truck involved ended up ‎over an embankment.

Unconfirmed Firearm Incident in Sandys Parish

Police continue their inquiries regarding an unconfirmed firearm incident reported around 1:40am Monday, March 27th in the Mangrove Bay Road, Sandys parish area.

Details remain unclear but it appears that a 30 year old Sandys man was driving a car along Mangrove Bay Road when the vehicle was damaged.

Traffic Collision Investigation and Forensic Support Unit personnel attended the area however, there was no evidence to substantiate that a firearm was discharged at that time.
