Around 9:40 this morning, Police received a report of an industrial accident at a Mid Ocean Drive, Hamilton parish construction site. It appears that a crane was working in the area when it went down a steep hill and the operator, a 50 year old Pembroke man, was unable to bring it to a stop. The Pembroke man then jumped from the machine, sustaining a fractured right arm & hip. The crane ended up on its side and received moderate damage.
At 2:25pm today, Police received a report of a sudden death at John Smith's Bay in Smith's parish. Details about the incident are unclear; however the victim, a 53 year old male visitor to the island, was rushed to KEMH via ambulance from the beach area in an unresponsive state and subsequently pronounced dead at 3:08pm by an on call physician. However, there are no suspicious circumstances. No further information will be released until the next of kin have been notified.

Further to my public statement on June 21, 2007 I would like to inform the public that in conjunction with the investigation the Bermuda Police Service has launched into the theft of Police files, the Service has commenced legal proceedings in the Supreme Court of Bermuda in which I sought to establish the principle that confidential Police investigations should be protected from unauthorized disclosure.
Further to my public statement on June 21, 2007 I would like to inform the public that in conjunction with the investigation the Bermuda Police Service has launched into the theft of Police files, the Service has commenced legal proceedings in the Supreme Court of Bermuda in which I sought to establish the principle that confidential Police investigations should be protected from unauthorized disclosure.
The legal proceedings are designated solely to protect the integrity of the policing process and the principles that support the rule of law.
While we are disappointed that the Bermuda Police Service yet again has not been given the specifics of The Sun's Omnibus survey so that we can adequately respond to the concerns levied, the Service is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for everyone living in Bermuda.

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 23 year old Tristan Codrington of Sandy's parish who died as a result of a road traffic collision that took place around 11:25pm on Thursday. It appears that a motorcycle was traveling west on Mangrove Bay Road and a car was exiting Somerset Country Squire when the vehicles collided. Tristan, who was the pillion passenger on the cycle, was taken to KEMH via ambulance where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries at 11am on Saturday.
