Update – Jason Smith Murder Investigation

The Bermuda Police Service is continuing to appeal for witnesses or anyone with any information regarding the murder of 22 year old Jason Smith, which occurred around 3:50am Sunday, May 1st 2011 in the Overview Hill, Pembroke area.

In particular detectives are interested in speaking with any persons that saw or may have information about a suspicious vehicle, person(s) or activity in the area of Overview Hill, Vaucrossons Crescent and Mount Hill between the hours of 2am and 5am on Sunday, May 1st 2011.

Medical Emergency

Around 11am on Tuesday, Police responded to a reported medical emergency at a St. George’s boatyard. It appears that the victim, a 75 year old Hamilton parish man, was cleaning a boat on dry dock when he fell, sustaining a head injury. The Hamilton parish man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Clarification: A D & T Excavation

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the identity of the female victim who was removed from the waters near Mills Creek, Pembroke on Friday 29th April 2011, as 45 year old Denise Evans-Wilkinson of Pembroke Parish.

Detective Superintendent Antoine Daniels - At 3:50am on Sunday morning, Police officers responded to a report of a man having been shot and injured near a residence on Overview Hill in Pembroke Parish.

Police responded immediately to this firearms report and on arrival at the scene discovered 22 year old Jason Smith of Warwick Parish who had sustained a number of what appeared to be gunshot wounds to his body. First aid was administered and he was conveyed to hospital by ambulance where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Fatal Shooting in Pembroke

Assistant Commissioner of Police David Mirfield - Around 3:50am Sunday, May 1st 2011 Police and first responders attended a report of a confirmed firearm incident in the North Shore Road, Overview Hill Pembroke area. On arrival it was ascertained that a 22 year old man was shot. He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance where he died as a result of his injuries. Officers from the Forensic Support Unit and the Serious Crime Unit are currently processing the scene. Detectives are also working closely with the victim’s family. Initial inquiries suggest that the victim may not have been the intended target.

Court Appearance For Attempted Murder & Firearm Offences

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro, Officer In Charge of the Serious Crime Unit - A 24 year old Paget man appeared in Magistrates’ Court today on charges of Attempted Murder & Firearms offences.

Royunde Cyrus Stevens was charged with the Attempted Murder of a 16 year old male on 25th March, 2011 in Rambling Lane, Pembroke.

Detectives from the Serious Crime Unit have been investigating this incident since it occurred and the charges are the product of efforts by members of the Bermuda Police Service.

Policing For Easter Weekend

Murder of David Clarke

The members of the Bermuda Police Service would like to extend their heartfelt condolences to the friends & family of Mr. David Clarke who is now tragically the fourth young Bermudian man to lose his life to gunfire this year.

Mr. Clarke was a 26 year old single man in the prime of his life.

Reported Firearm Incident in Southampton

Police responded to a report of an unconfirmed firearm incident that took place around 11:55pm on Sunday on Horseshoe Road in the area of Southampton Rangers Sports Club.

Police are investigating shots fired in that area. No one was injured and police are asking for anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously to contact police on 295-0011 or the independent, confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477.
