Alleged Firearm Incident in Sandys Parish

Police are currently investigating an alleged firearm incident that took place around 10:15pm on Saturday, August 25th in the vicinity of Woody's Bar & Restaurant in Sandys parish. There were no reported injuries. Detectives are interested in speaking with anyone who was at the Sandys establishment on Saturday night or anyone with any information regarding the alleged incident. Anyone who can assist with inquiries into this matter is encouraged to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010 or the confidential and anonymous Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.

Man Arrested After Reported Burglary at Court Street Store

A few minutes after 7:00pm today, police responded to a report of a burglary that took place at a business on Court Street. Police were in the area and saw the suspect.

A chase ensued and the suspect made his way to the corner of King and Dundonald Streets where he jumped on the roof of a nearby building. Police surrounded the building however the man jumped off the building, resulting in the man falling on his face.

A struggle commenced and the suspect was tasered by police.

Two Men Rescued After Marine Incident

At approximately 5:35pm today marine police were dispatched to a report of an 18 foot fishing boat that capsized just off Devonshire Bay. Two males aged 40 and 60 were assisted to the shore and both appear to be fine. In the abundance of caution both men were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where they are being treated for non-life threatening injures. The fishing boat was severely damaged and has sunk.

Marine police are advising the maritime community to exercise caution when going out on the water as we are expecting very rough and unpredictable waters for the next few days.

Update: Sudden Death

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 23 year old Alexander Gosselin, a guest worker from Canada, who died after being found in a non-responsive state at a residence on Morgan’s Hill in Sandys at 12:26pm Friday afternoon.

It appears that a resident of the house entered and found Mr. Gosselin in a collapsed state in a room in the dwelling. An on call doctor attended the residence and pronounced him dead at 1:15pm Friday.

Foul play is not suspected and the Bermuda Police Service extends our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

Sudden Death

Police responded to a report of a non-responsive male found in a residence on Morgan's Hill in Sandys at 12:26pm this afternoon. It appears that a resident of the house entered and found a male in a collapsed state. An on call doctor attended the residence and pronounced the man dead at 1:15pm. An investigation into the matter has commenced and foul play has not been ruled out.

The investigation is being led by Acting Inspector Berry from Somerest Police Station. Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with any information to call 234-1010. No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified.

Seventh Road Fatality for 2012

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 59 year old Jaha Mallory of Sandys parish who died after being involved in a road traffic collision that took place last Friday at 4:38pm. An autopsy will be conducted in the near future to determine the exact cause of Mr. Mallory's death. The Bermuda Police Service extends its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Mallory. Inquiries are ongoing and police are appealing for witnesses to this collision or anyone who may have seen Mr. Mallory up to an hour before the time of the incident to contact PC James Eli at the Roads Policing Unit on 247-1788.

Rudolph Smith Murder Inquiry Commences

Assistant Commissioner of Police Antoine Daniels - Today the Bermuda Police Service is taking an unfamiliar position of officially classifying the disappearance of 41 year-old Pembroke man Mr. Rudy Lamar Smith as a murder.

Mr. Smith was last seen alive about 7pm on Monday 9th July 2012, walking in the area of One-Way Deepdale in Pembroke parish.

After not being seen or spoken to for a number of days, a missing persons report was made to police.

Officers immediately commenced investigations in an effort to trace Mr. Smith’s most recent movements with a view to locating him and establishing if he was in any harm or distress.

Sixth Road Fatality for 2012

Police can now confirm the death of 58 year old Alexander Michael Doty of Indiana who died as a result of injuries received in a collision that took place at approximately 11:10pm on Wednesday in the area of Pitts Bay Road & Roxdene Lane in Pembroke.

It appears that Mr. Doty was walking along Pitts Bay Road when he was hit by a 27-year old man traveling on a motorcycle.

Reported Serious Collision in Smith's Parish

Police responded to a report of a serious road traffic collision that took place at 11:35am on South Road in Smith's parish in the area of St. Mark's Church. It appears that a taxi and a 51 year old Paget man on a pedal cycle were traveling along South Road when they collided.
