The Bermuda Police Service (BPS), is renewing its appeal for information regarding that serious single vehicle collision, which took place on Crow Lane Sunday, May 28th, 2023.

The 44-year-old male victim in that collision remains in the Intensive Care Unit for further medical treatment of his injuries, which are life threatening.

You may remember around 11:45 p.m. on Sunday, police responded to a report of a single vehicle collision involving a motorcycle near the eastbound Crow Lane, Pembroke bus stop.

When they arrived, police officers and emergency medical personnel found a 44-year-old male, unconscious but breathing.

Indications are the male motorcyclist was traveling along the eastbound carriageway of Crow Lane, on the approach to the North Roundabout, when he somehow became involved in a collision and was ejected from the bike.

He suffered serious head and facial injuries as well as a serious injury to his left arm.

He was provided treatment at the scene by EMTs and was subsequently transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

The investigation into this matter remains ongoing and anyone with information, or who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Police Constable Mervin Homer on 295-0011 or, via email mhomer@bps.bm.

Around 7:20 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30th, 2023, police received a report of an unresponsive male in the walkway of a property on Par-La-Ville Road, Pembroke.

Police and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene.

On arrival, officers ascertained that the person was deceased.

The police doctor attended and certified death shortly after.

There were no signs of foul play.

However, the location was processed by the Forensics Support Unit to assist with the pending enquiry.

The body was subsequently transported to the morgue at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

No further information will be provided at this time.

A coroner's enquiry will be completed.

Around 1:00pm on 30th May 2023, police and other emergency services responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on South Road just outside of Ice Queen, in Paget.

Initial enquires suggests that an elderly man traveling west on a motorcycle, lost control of his vehicle, causing him to veer across the road into the eastbound lane and hit a wall. The man was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment of suspected head injuries.

Traffic was diverted around the scene for about an hour, while police processed the scene.

Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is asked to contact police on 211.

Around 11:45 p.m. on Sunday, May 28th, 2023, police received a 911 report of a single vehicle road traffic collision involving a motorcycle on Crow Lane, Pembroke, near the east bound bus stop.

Police officers and EMS personnel responded and found the victim, a 44-year-old male, unconscious but breathing.

He sustained serious head and facial injuries as well as an injury to his left arm.

He was provided treatment at the scene by EMTs and was subsequently transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

At last check he remained unconscious in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

An investigation into this matter has now begun and anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Sergeant Jonathan Talbot on 717-2452 or 295-0011.

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) wishes to thank the public for the support and cooperation provided our officers over the Bermuda Day holiday weekend.

There were no major acts of criminality to report and it appears residents embraced our appeals for respect to be shown to each other and celebrated the holiday in true Bermuda spirit.

Despite the overall peaceful nature of the holiday, the BPS made thirty-two arrests for various offences, including a large number for impaired driving. This is disappointing for a weekend where Roadside Sobriety Testing was gazetted and well publicised.

Between the sobriety testing checkpoints and motorists stopped by BPS officers on general patrol, a total of twelve people were arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. Three of whom ultimately passed the alco-analyser testing at Hamilton Police Station and were subsequently released.

Elsewhere, a total of forty-six tickets were issued for traffic offences.

The breakdown is as follows:

Failing to display required lights - 1

Navigating a boat in Ferry Reach causing wake - 1

Parking in a prohibited manner - 9

No insurance - 4

Using or permitting use of unlicensed vehicle - 4

Disobeying traffic signs - 5

Driving in a manner dangerous - 2

Seatbelt Infraction - 2

Speeding - 6

No driver’s licence - 1

Fail to exhibit number plate - 3

Motorist notice (warning) - 6

Use of cell-phone - 1

Making false statements – 1

We can also confirm there were very few reports of public violence. In fact, there were only two such incidents of note for the entire weekend.

Shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 25th, 2023, officers attended King Edward VII Memorial Hospital following a report that a fifteen year old boy had been stabbed. Further investigations revealed he and three other males of similar age were walking along Bakery Lane, near the junction with St. John’s Road, Pembroke. The victim and one of the males reportedly got into a shoving match. The alleged perpetrator pulled a knife from his waist, and stabbed the victim in the upper back. The injury was not considered serious or life threatening.

The second incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, May 27th. Around 12:45 a.m. on that date, police received a report of an assault and wilful damage at The Front Yard, Front Street, City of Hamilton. A security guard at the establishment reportedly intervened in a physical altercation between the male suspect, and a woman. The suspect then attacked the security guard, punching him about the head and face.

The Bermuda Police Service urges business owners and other members of the public to be alert when conducting transactions in $U.S. notes.

There have been recently confirmed reports of counterfeit $U.S. notes being used by individuals to purchase items at local establishments.

The counterfeit notes detected have been in the following denominations:

U.S. $100 with serial number DB66688803Z

U.S. $50 with serial number PC 07801761A

U.S. $20 with serial number PF847172451

U.S. $10 with serial number GL64739922A

However, it should be noted that the counterfeit currency currently in circulation may not be limited to the serial numbers listed.

Employees are reminded that if counterfeit cash is detected during a transaction, the member of staff receiving the fake money should hold on to it, jot down a description of the individual who tendered it and contact police immediately. Similarly, members of the public should take a few seconds to examine any $U.S. notes they may receive, especially the larger denominations.

Persons who may have unknowingly received counterfeit currency are encouraged to call the main police telephone number 295-0011 at the earliest opportunity, to report the matter.

Alternatively, if you are aware of suspicious circumstances regarding suspected counterfeit currency and wish to report it anonymously, please call the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline 800-8477.

It should also be noted, once again, that it is a criminal offence to pass to another, possess, make or reproduce any counterfeit currency; punishable by up to five years in prison – and those caught committing such offences can expect to be prosecuted.

Over the years, the women of the uniformed services have been getting together on International Women’s Day which is held on the 8th of March every year, celebrating women in the workforce.

This year, the women of the uniformed services decided to collectively host a series of events for International Women’s Day, including a group photo, greeting motorists across the island and a networking event.

Due to the success of the day’s events, it was obvious that the women should continue to build relationships between the sister agencies, with the aim of promoting women in the workforce, through networking and collaboration.

On 23rd May 2023, the agencies held the inaugural Uniformed Women’s Collective Leadership Workshop, at the Police Recreation Club.

“Finding Our Voices” was the theme for 2023, featuring keynote speaker Mrs. Patrice Frith-Hayward, who delivered a dynamic speech around empowering women.

About 70 women from the Bermuda Police Service, Customs Department, Department of Corrections, the Royal Bermuda Regiment and Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service, were eventually broken up into four working groups to discuss the challenges of being a woman in their various organizations and collectively come up with ideas and solutions to improve the work environment.

This event was also attended by the various women leaders in the uniformed Services such as, Deputy Commissioner of Police Mrs. Na’imah Astwood, Commissioner of Corrections Mrs. Keeva Joell-Benjamin, Collector of Customs Mrs. Lucinda Pearman, Lieutenant LeeAnn Tucker representing the Royal Bermuda Regiment and Ms. Roche’ Hodsoll representing the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service.

This was a successful day and the beginning of many events to come.

In order to deter anti-social behaviour, especially during the night-time economy you can expect to see an increased police presence across the island during this time, with 315-F checks being carried out at various locations.

Bermuda Day Race Events.

The Sinclair Packwood Memorial Bicycle Race, sponsored by the Bermuda Bicycle Association, will see race participants set off from York Street, St. George’s Parish at 8:20am. The riders will race along the main roads from St. George’s Parish, finishing on Cedar Avenue, City of Hamilton. The Junior Sinclair Packwood Memorial Bicycle Race, will start on Middle Road, Devonshire, near Fort Hill at 8:20am and finish at Dutton Avenue, Pembroke Parish.

The Bermuda Half Marathon Derby with approximately 1,000 runners will start from York Street St. George’s at 8:30am and finish at Dutton Avenue, Pembroke Parish.  The Junior Classic Running Race will start at 9:45am at the east end of Front Street and finish on Dutton Avenue. Approximately 60 runners will compete in this race.

As in previous years, the Bermuda Police Service, Bermuda Reserve Police and the race organisers will have officers and marshals positioned along the routes. They are there to minimise risks to all road users, especially the cyclists and the runners.

We are asking the motoring public to fully cooperate with any directions given. We all need to do our best to ensure there are no collisions with race participants, as that could lead to serious injury or death.

On Friday, the roads along the race route will close at 8:00a.m.

Therefore, persons who are travelling on morning flights need to be sure they arrive at the LF Wade International airport prior to 8am.

The road closures for the races will be in effect from 8:00am until around 12.30pm. Details of the road closures can be found on the Government of Bermuda’s website under The Official Gazette, Government notices. In addition:

• No traffic will be allowed to travel in either direction during the cycle race.

• No traffic will be allowed to travel in either direction during the running race.

Bermuda Day Parade.

The Bermuda Day parade will commence within the City of Hamilton at 1:30pm and will finish at approximately 7pm. The parade will start on Front Street, near the junction with Bermudiana Road and travel along Front Street to Court Street, Church Street, and Cedar Avenue before concluding on Marsh Folly Road.

No parking areas will be marked, and specific road closure times are contained in the gazetted notices. Once the roads are closed in the City of Hamilton, no persons will be allowed to move their vehicles between the time that the races start and the end of the parade.

During the parade, King Street between Reid Street and Church Street will be converted into a two-way street from 12.30pm until the conclusion of the parade.

Road Safety.

The motoring public should be mindful that the police will be highly visible on the roads. In addition to calming the roads, there will be an emphasis on offences such as speeding, impaired driving and driving without due care and attention. Remember, road safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Loud Music.

Bermuda Day brings with it a party atmosphere. Loud music, both in residential neighbourhoods and on the water, is a feature of this holiday. We ask a couple of things of the public. Patience and tolerance on the part of the persons who enjoy a more sombre celebration, along with a display of respect and courtesy on the part of those who take a more festive approach.

We encourage members of the community, to work together to keep the peace in their neighbourhoods. Please exercise patience, tolerance, and caution so that we all have a good time.

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is still seeking the assistance of the public in the investigation of 29-year-old Marco Warren’s tragic death.

A BPS Family Liaison Officer continues to provide support to Mr. Warren’s loved ones.

As always, the BPS is grateful for members of the public who have already shared any information. We are encouraging anyone who was traveling on North Shore Road from Flatts to Blue Hole Hill between 3:00am and 3:15am on Sunday the 14th of May to please make contact with the police. Even if you don’t believe you saw anything significant, we would like to speak with you.

Currently available CCTV footage is being reviewed, and we are requesting anyone with private CCTV footage along North Shore Road between Crawl Hill and Blue Hole Hill to contact us.

To the driver, and any occupants of the vehicle involved, please make yourselves known to police. This is your opportunity to do the right thing, and let us know what occurred during the early hours of Sunday morning.

As this investigation progresses, additional lines of inquiry will be considered accordingly.

Today is the seventh year anniversary of the murder of Patrick Dill. Mr. Dill was shot to death as he left his residence on Crossland Lane, Pembroke, and was about to get into his car to go to a party. This was about 10:35 p.m. on Saturday 21st May, 2016. This was a senseless murder that took the life of Patrick, who at the time was 26 years-old and was in the prime of his life.

Detective Inspector Jason Smith is renewing the appeal for community assistance.

“Patrick was a vibrant young man that was an I.T. technician, working in international business. He was pursuing his goals and a productive member of society that was gunned down by unscrupulous men.

The investigation into Patrick’s murder is ongoing and today, on the anniversary of his death, the police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward and assist in their investigation, to bring closure to his family, and friends.

The investigation remains active and there is a dedicated team of investigators working on this case that needs the public’s assistance.

Investigators are aware that members of our community have information that is crucial to our investigation, but may be reluctant to come forward. We understand the sensitivities surrounding your reluctance to come forward, however this information is invaluable to piece together the strands that can tip the investigation over.

Patrick’s family are still grieving and are looking for answers to why he was taken away from them at such a young age.

There are residents in the Crossland neighbourhood that witnessed and saw activity that aroused their suspicions the night before and the night of his murder. These area residents might have seen a man lurking about in the neighbourhood and can either identify or provide police with a description of what he looked like and or was wearing. This is the kind of assistance that we are looking for.

No matter how insignificant you may think of the information you have, you can help in solving this murder.

We are appealing for you to make contact with investigators in solving this case and bringing justice to his family.”
