Fatal RTC

Around 3:15pm today, Police attended a fatal road traffic collision at the junction of North Shore Road and Foothills Road in Devonshire involving a car and a motorcycle. It appear that the car was making a right turn out of Foothills Road and the motorcycle was traveling west on North Shore Road when the vehicles collided.

High Speed Chase

Around 1:20pm today, Police were stationary on Paynters Road in Smith’s parish when they observed a silver Rover car which had been reported stolen traveling west along the same road. The Police officer followed the vehicle at a distance along Harrington Sound Road, through Devil’s Hole and then on to South Road. Then the car stopped in the area of Watch Hill Park. The officer approached the vehicle and told the driver to turn off the car’s engine, which he did.

Marine Offences Procedure Act 2006

The Marine Police, Marine & Ports officers and Fisheries Inspectors are now in a position to issue tickets for persons committing marine offences as a result of the introduction of the Marine Offences Procedure Act 2006. This is a procedural change in the prosecution of marine offences which brings it in line with the long standing method of dealing with traffic offences.

Cup Match Press Conference

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) wishes to take this opportunity to issue a number of advisories to the public to ensure a peaceful and safe time during this year’s Cup Match holiday period. This is traditionally a busy time from a policing perspective and as such we will launch an initiative to increase Police patrols for the five days between Wednesday August 2nd and Sunday August 6th.

Marine Advisory

The Marine Police would like to remind the boating public that over the Cup Match weekend there is likely to be very heavy marine traffic and caution should be exercised. In particular operators of vessels are requested to observe the 5 knot speed limit within 100 metres of the shoreline and ensure they are not creating a large wake.

Commissioner’s Response to Mr. Victor Alleyne’s Article in Today’s Royal Gazette

The method used in the identification parade after the assault on Mr. Victor ‘Rudy’ Alleyne is regrettable. I recognize that witnesses must be protected and their identity kept confidential and it is to that end that we are in the process of equipping a purpose built identification suite where victims and suspects will be kept apart and not able to interact with each other, in keeping with best practices both here and elsewhere.

Witness Appeal

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the assault of a 19 year old Devonshire man around 2:40am Sunday, July 23, 2006 on Frog Lane in Devonshire. The Devonshire man sustained serious injuries after being attacked with a bladed article.

Police are actively pursuing all leads in the two major incidents that took place in the early morning hours of Sunday morning. Around 2:40am on Sunday, a 19 year old Devonshire man was assaulted on Frog Lane in Devonshire with a bladed article. And around 4:05am on Sunday, 18 year old Jason Lightbourne died after sustaining gunshot wounds on Ord Road in Paget.

Witness Appeal

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the assault of a 31 year old Hamilton parish man on Front Street in the City of Hamilton by a group of men around 6pm Wednesday, July 5, 2006 following the World Cup Semi-Final game France vs. Portugal. Initial inquiries revealed that there were several witnesses to the assault, and we are encouraging these individuals to come forward and assist Police with their investigation.
