Witness Appeal: Taxi & Motorcycle Collide in Hamilton Parish [Updated]

There has been a serious road traffic collision near the entrance to Crystal Caves on Wilkinson Avenue, Hamilton Parish.
Details are limited at this time although it is understood the collision involved a motorcycle and a taxi.
The scene is currently being processed and it is anticipated the roadway will be closed for some time.
Traffic headed west is being directed along North Shore Road, while motorists headed east, are advised to use Fractious Street to get to North Shore Road and then continue east.
Update: Shortly before 1:15 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024, police and other first responders were dispatched to a two vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and an airport taxi, on Wilkinson Avenue near the northern entrance to the Crystal Caves property in Hamilton Parish.
Reports suggest the motorcycle rider, a 19-year-old male, was traveling south along Wilkinson Avenue, when he attempted to overtake a PTB bus.
As he attempted the manoeuvre, he reportedly came into contact with the airport taxi which was traveling in the opposite direction.
The motorcycle rider was ejected from the vehicle and landed on the roadway.
He sustained a serious head injury and was in and out of consciousness at the scene. He also suffered a broken leg and facial injuries.
He was attended to by EMTs before being transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where at last check he continued to receive treatment for his injuries.
The 33-year-old male taxi driver was not reported to be injured.
The taxi was left with moderate damage, however, the motorcycle is a write-off.
The roadway remained closed for approximately three and a half hours as traffic collision investigators processed the scene. We wish to thank the motoring public for their patience and co-operation during this exercise.

Around 12:30pm Thursday, 14th March 2024, a reported single vehicle collision occurred on St. David’s Road in St. George’s, in the vicinity of Stocks Road.
Early information indicates that a car driven by a 66-year-old St. George’s woman went off the road, at the corner near Stocks Harbour.
The incident happened in front of a police officer driving in the area, who immediately stopped his vehicle and entered the water to render assistance until the arrival of Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service (BF&RS) personnel.
Apparently the female driver was not seriously hurt and was treated for a hand injury at the scene by BF&RS emergency medical technicians.
At last check, arrangements were being made to have the damaged car removed from the shoreline.
Once again, motorists travelling through this area of St. David’s Road are reminded to use caution, particularly when the roads are wet.

Witness Appeal: Reported Disturbance in Devonshire

Shortly before 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2024, police officers were dispatched to a disturbance involving several individuals, two of whom were allegedly armed with knives, at the Ocean View Golf Course, Devonshire.
Upon police arrival most of the people had left the scene. However, forensic evidence was found to confirm an incident had occurred. Shortly after, a 39-year-old male with a head injury was seen on North Shore Road near Loyal Hill, Devonshire. He was subsequently transported by private car to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he was attended to for his injury, which was not considered life threatening.
Around 3:35 p.m. on the same day, Emergency Dispatch received a call for assistance for a 42-year-old male with an apparent stabbing injury, at a Cedar Park Road, Devonshire residence. Officers attended the scene and located the injured male who was also taken to hospital by private vehicle.
His injuries which included cuts to his shoulder and head, were not considered life threatening.
An investigation into these matters, which are all believed to be linked, has begun and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Patrick Jones on 717-2170 or via email at pjones@bps.bm.

Damage Only Paget Collision Involving DPT Bus, Utility Pole & Truck

Around 2:20pm Wednesday, 13th March 2024, a reported collision occurred on Middle Road in Paget, near the junction with Chapel Road.
It appears that a Department of Public Transportation (DPT) bus was being driven in the westbound lane of Middle Road, when an unknown vehicle being driven in the opposite direction caused the bus driver to take evasive action and collide with a utility pole.
Part of the utility pole then struck a truck, which was being driven behind the DPT bus.
The DPT bus, utility pole and truck were damaged.
However, there were no reported injuries.
Traffic was diverted from Middle Road, Paget at the junctions of Manse Road and Chapel Road while BELCO, Digicel and One Communications personnel were at the scene regarding the damaged utility pole.
Normal traffic flow resumed in the area around 4:45pm Wednesday.

Hit & Run Witness Appeal: Female Pedestrian Hurt

Around 3:00 pm on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, police and EMTs attended a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a motorcar, at the junction of Reid and Parliament Streets in the City of Hamilton.
On arrival, it was ascertained that a 30-year-old female was struck by a motorcar while crossing the roadway.
The vehicle was driven by an unidentified male who left the scene.
Officers later located the vehicle, abandoned, along Angle Street, Pembroke.
The victim was transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where she was attended to for injuries which were not considered serious.
She has since been discharged.
An investigation into this hit and run incident is now underway.

RFC 83 Underway: 14 Student Officers Recently Sworn In

One week ago, a swearing-in ceremony for Recruit Foundation Course (RFC) 83 was held at Bermuda Police Service (BPS) Headquarters Training Centre, 1:15pm Wednesday (6th March 2024).
As is tradition, the Commissioner of Police, along with members of the BPS Senior Leadership Team and Training Centre staff, officially inducted the newest recruits.

Money Recovered

On Sunday, March 10, 2024, the Bermuda Police Service seized a significant amount of money which was discovered in the area of Church Bay Park, Southampton.
We are currently attempting to identify who the owner may be.

Inquiries Continue After Southampton Collision Tuesday Morning [Updated]

Inquiries continue regarding a collision that occurred around 7am Tuesday, 12th March 2024 on Middle Road in Southampton, near the junction with Granaway Lane.
Details remain limited at this time. However, it appears that a truck collided with the rear of a trailer, which was being towed by another truck.
Apparently one male was hurt and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of a leg injury.
An update on his medical condition is anticipated in due course.
Traffic was reduced to one lane for approximately one and a half hours, with delays for morning commuters in the area, until the damaged vehicles could be cleared from the scene.
Any witnesses are encouraged to call 211.
Update: Wednesday, 13th March - It now appears that a collision reported around 7am Tuesday, 12th March 2024 on Middle Road in Southampton, near the junction with Granaway Lane, occurred when a light truck driven in the westbound lane collided with the rear of a trailer attached to a heavy truck, which had stopped in the westbound lane.
Police, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service as well as ambulance personnel responded.
At the time, the heavy truck and trailer were stationary while a small crane was unloaded into the nearby bus layby.
The passenger of the light truck, said to be a 44-year-old male guest worker, was temporarily trapped in that vehicle before being extricated by firefighters.
It is understood that after transport to hospital via ambulance, he received treatment for injuries to his legs and was later discharged.
No one else was hurt in the collision.

Commissioner of Police’s Public Appeal After Recent Firearms Incidents

Commissioner of Police Darrin Simons – “The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is appealing for the public to provide any information they may have regarding recent firearms incidents in our community.
When we work together, the evidence of our success is clear.
Information provided by members of the public resulted in arrested suspects and recovered evidence for two recent firearms incidents. Thankfully, neither of these resulted in injury.
Early this past Sunday morning, officers attended a confirmed shooting outside a popular establishment on Court Street, Pembroke. A 38-year-old man sustained multiple gunshot wounds. His injuries are not considered life threatening but he remains in hospital.
No one called the police to report this incident. A police officer on duty at the Hamilton Police Station happened to hear the gunshots and alerted colleagues.
Early indications are that the rapid response by officers and their life-saving actions may well have prevented a more tragic outcome.
It is understandable that residents would feel some unease in light of these brazen acts of criminality.
I wish to assure the public, the Bermuda Police Service remains unrelenting in our efforts at making Bermuda safer.
There is now a heightened presence on the streets with officers from Community Policing redeployed to general patrol duties until the end of April. That redeployment is in addition to stepped up enforcement activity by the Gang Unit, the Police Support Unit, and the Roads Policing Unit.
However, we also need you to do your part by reporting criminal activity that may be taking place in your neighbourhoods, or that you are otherwise aware of.”
Male Motorcyclist Hospitalised After Collision With DPT Bus

Around 9:20am Saturday, 9th March 2024, a reported two vehicle collision occurred on Harrington Sound Road in Hamilton parish, near the junction with Quarry Road.
It appears that a head-on collision involving a motorcyclist and a Department of Public Transportation (DPT) bus in the Shark Hole Hill area, resulted in the rider being temporarily trapped under the front of the bus, while still on the motorcycle.
The injured motorcyclist, understood to be a 29-year-old Pembroke man remained conscious throughout, as passengers from the bus assisted him until he could be extricated and transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment.
At last check he remained hospitalised, with injuries that were considered non-life threatening.
The bus driver and passengers were not hurt. However, both vehicles involved were damaged.
