Around 1:10pm on Sunday, June 21st first responders were dispatched to the apparent drowning of a male visitor at the Fairmont Southampton Resort near Whaler Inn.
It appears that a 62 year old American man was snorkeling in the east Whale Bay area with a visiting male friend when he encountered difficulty.
The 62 year old visitor was helped ashore by his friend and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance where he was later pronounced dead.
No further information will be given regarding the deceased until the next of kin have been informed.
Sudden Death of George Simons
The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 57 year old George Simons and extends condolences to his family and friends.
Initial details were limited; however it now appears that Mr. Simons was found in an unresponsive state outside a property in the St. Mary’s Road, Warwick area around 7:20pm Friday, June 19th by a member of the public who called 911.
First responders attended and Mr. Simons was taken via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
There were no suspicious circumstances reported.
However, inquiries regarding this sudden death continue and persons that may have seen Mr. George Simons in the days prior to his untimely passing should contact the main police telephone number 295-0011, if they have not spoken with detectives already.
Update: 29 Year Old Man Arrested After Scuffle
Initial information suggested that around 9:35pm Friday, June 19th first responders were dispatched to an incident on Court Street in Pembroke.
However, it now appears that the incident occurred outside the MoneyShop on Dundonald Street in Pembroke, near the junction with Court Street.
It seems that a 29 year old Pembroke man apparently sustained injuries to his arms during an earlier scuffle with another man.
He was initially arrested to prevent any further occurrences after reportedly refusing to leave the premises – then taken to the hospital via ambulance for treatment – and later discharged.
Sandys Parish Serious Assault Victim Remains in ICU
At last check 7:20am Sunday, June 21st the 50 year old Sandys parish man being treated for lacerations to the neck remained at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit in stable condition.
The two men arrested in connection with the incident, which occurred around 10:25am Thursday, June 18th in Sandys parish, are still in police custody pending an anticipated court appearance.
