The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 88 year old Richard Johnston of Warwick and extends condolences to his family and friends.
Mr. Johnston was the driver of a taxi involved in a single vehicle crash in the area of Barnes Corner on Middle Road in Southampton near the junction with South Road around 9:30pm Friday, September 9th. Apparently the taxi struck a wall and overturned.
The senior citizen had to be extracted from the vehicle by Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service personnel before EMTs rushed him to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance, where a doctor later pronounced death at 10:25pm Friday.
A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to assist Mr. Johnston’s family at this difficult time.
Police are not currently classifying this incident as a road traffic fatality until cause of death has been determined by an autopsy.
Motorcyclist Injured in Two Vehicle Collision
Around 8:35pm on Saturday, September 10th police and first responders were dispatched to a reported two vehicle collision on North Shore Road in Hamilton parish, near the junction with Studio Lane.
It appears that a motorcyclist and a truck driver traveling in opposite directions collided in the vicinity of Bethel AME Church.
Apparently the injured rider, a 20 year old St. George’s man, sustained a laceration to his foot as well as abrasions to his knees, elbows and hands which were not considered life threatening.

Section of Somerset Road Re-Opened
A section of Somerset Road between Broome Street/Hook ‘n Ladder Lane and Cambridge Road was re-opened to normal traffic flow Saturday, after repairs were completed to utility poles damaged by a tractor trailer around 11:50am Friday.
