At about 9:30pm on Friday September 9th first responders were dispatched to Barnes Corner in Southampton, to a single vehicle road traffic collision involving a taxi.

Details are sketchy but it appears that the taxi driver was traveling east on Middle Road in Southampton when the driver, a 88 year old man lost control of his vehicle resulting in the taxi overturning.

The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service extricated the man out of the vehicle and he was subsequently taken to the hospital where he is being treated for serious injuries.

The area has been cordoned off whilst the scene is being processed by the relevant officers.

Police are appealing to witnesses or anyone who may have seen the collision to contact police on 295-0011.

Update: The Bermuda Police Service can confirm the death of the 88 year old man who was involved in the collision that took place on Middle Road in Southampton Friday evening. 

No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified.
