The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 62 year old William Smith, a visitor from South Carolina, USA and extends condolences to his family and friends.
It appears that Mr. Smith was snorkeling with a visiting male friend in the east Whale Bay area at the Fairmont Southampton Resort around 1:10pm Sunday, June 21st when he encountered difficulty.
Apparently Mr. Smith was helped ashore by his friend and others in the area who heeded the call to assist. CPR was then commenced by beach staff and continued by Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service personnel at the scene, as well as EMTs during transport to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance.
However despite these life-saving efforts, the South Carolina resident was pronounced dead at 1:45pm Sunday at the hospital. A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to assist Mr. Smith’s loved ones at this difficult time and inquiries regarding this sudden death continue.
Update: Teens Injured Friday Night in Southampton Collision
At last check the 16 year old Southampton male injured in a collision that occurred around 11:23pm Friday on Middle Road in Southampton in the area of Greene's Guest House was recovering in stable condition on a general ward at the hospital while the 17 year old Southampton male also injured in the same collision has been treated and discharged. Inquiries continue and any witnesses should contact the main police telephone number 295-0011.
Reported Stolen Vehicle: White Suzuki Wagon R
Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a white Suzuki Wagon R bearing license plate number 05425 that was removed from Riddell’s Bay public dock in Warwick sometime between 8pm Saturday, June 20th and 9:30am Sunday, June 21st. Members of the public who may have seen this vehicle recently should contact the main police telephone number 295-0011 at the earliest opportunity.
This is the seventh car reported stolen since May 1st 2015, with the previous six being subsequently recovered. The Bermuda Police Service is aware that in many of these instances, the vehicles were left insecure with the keys somewhere inside. Therefore, members of the public are reminded to secure their vehicles properly before leaving them unattended for any length of time.
Sandys Parish Serious Assault Victim Remains in ICU
At last check around 6:30am Monday, June 22nd the 50 year old Sandys parish man being treated for lacerations to the neck remained at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit in stable condition.
